Described as a “shockingly truthful film,” The Big Short follows different investors who were able to capitalize on the 2008 financial crisis, triggered by the United States’ very fragile housing bubble and its subsequent crash. In the process, they discover just how flawed and corrupt the market system is. With an all-star cast (Christian Bale, Steve Carrel, Ryan Gosling, and Brad Pitt, among others), the movie earned five nominations for both the Academy Awards and the BAFTAs (winning one at each), and was named one of the Top 10 films in the year of its release by the American Film Institute.
